Daily Dabbles: Eye Poppers

Northern Spotted Owl
By: Michael Nichols

It’s times like these that I wish to god I had a better camera.  If this had been my shot you would never know what it was I had tried to take a picture of!  It would just be a grey blur in a blur of brown and green, as I’m sure I’d be moving too much to actually get a clear shot of even the background.  😛

This is a photo of a Northern Spotted Owl in the great Redwood Forests.  In this particular case the far better photography than I, would me Michael Nichols, who works for National Geographic.  One trick to a shot like this… bait the owl to come that close.  Second trick to a shot like this…  make sure Michael is the one behind the camera, not me.  😉

Daily Dabbles: Eye Poppers

This is a lady bug (duh, right) taken by Leon Baas.  Now I’ve seen some stunning macro photos before but Leon has some of the best I have ever seen.  I can’t get over how colourful and whimsical his work is.  Take this picture for instance, it may be obvious it’s a ladybug, but the whole thing just gives it a magical, otherworldly feeling.  There’s a sense that this could be something out of a fantasy story, or even sci-fi.  I just can’t get over the pull this one has for me.

What do you think of it?

My World: Things To Come

So I am a very versatile creature.  I write, play music, web design, as well as visual arts.  In this case I am sharing with you my photo manipulation/digital painting of mine.  The original photograph of Sydney from a ferry was also taken by me (which I will more than likely post at some point in the future).  I’m not sure where the concept came from to be honest.  It just sort of happened.  Perhaps it was a subconscious thing.  After all, it was only my second day in Australia.  I had never been so far from my birthplace in the US.  In fact I couldn’t get much farther away than I was in that moment.  It was so new, exciting, inviting and held so many possibilities that I couldn’t even conceive yet.  Needless to say, the word “surreal” did very little to fully encompass how I felt then, or from that point on.

Take a look at it below and tell me what you think of it.  What does it make you feel or see in your minds eye?

Bamboo Forest

“Gateway Of Light”
Hana Highway, Maui, Hawaii
By: Kevin McNeal

I am thankful that I now live in Queensland, Australia.  True that bamboo can be found in the US, but I had never ventured far enough to see it.  Now I am surrounded by it.  All kinds of it.  I can just see this at the entrance to some secret garden on my property.  Though it can take bamboo a number of years to actually grow this large, but I can wait.

This particular shot was taken in Hawaii, by Kevin McNeal.

Oh man I would so love to have this in my backyard pool!  Of course I’d have to have the pool first.  😉  But this would be an amazing addition if you could recreate it for your own property!  It probably doesn’t help that my star sign is Aquarius (although Aquarius is an air sign not a water sign *shrugs*).

This is the Bigar Falls in Caraș-Severin, Romania.  The falls are in the forests of the Anina Mountains, and are fed by an underground water spring.  The fall empty out into the Minis River.

I bet this is a wonderfully relaxing place to be.  I love the striking green of the moss.  It looks so soft and inviting.  *sighs*

This picture was taken by Arthur Morris and is absolutely stunning!  I’m not normally one for the colour white, but this just strikes me every time I see it.  I think the stark contrast of the green is what really makes this picture.  These are a pair of gannets who were building their nest.  The male is passing material to the female.  It’s so simplistic, yet so moving too.  I may have to put this up as my desktop wallpaper for a while.  😉

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island

This photo was taken on Mackinac Island, in Michigan, USA.  Mackinac Island has always been, and probably always will be, one of my favorite places on earth.  The whole atmosphere there is like nowhere else that I’ve been.
