My Life: It’s My Birthday, and I’ll Thrive

Clifford The Big Red Dog

One of my all time favorite character. 🙂

Well it’s that time of year again, my birthday.  This year I’m 31.  Admittedly, that’s a little scary.  I don’t mind aging, per-say.  What I mind is the idea that people keep track of it, lol.  My views on most things tend to be a minority thinking among the rest of the world’s thought process.

Age to me means nothing when it comes to who someone is, yet people still seem to define a lot of who they are or what they do by their age.  What’s up with that?  I’ve known a number of very young people who have shown far more maturity than their age would normally allow.  In the reverse, I’ve known too many older people who’s immaturity has never surpassed grade school.  So why bother with tacking a number to yourself?

Charlotte's Newborn Session

Of course, as my mum would say, birthdays are a celebration of your birth.  The fact you are alive and were brought into this world in the first place.  And she is absolutely right.  Except I differ slightly on this as well.  I have no issue in the least being happy that I was born, or that anyone was born.  But do you really need a day to highlight that?  Shouldn’t we be reveling in the fact we are alive everyday?  Although, even I have issues with being happy about being alive sometimes, lol.  The point still remains though.  Do we need one day a year for it?

Christmas-Presents-e1324758594186Oh yeah, that’s right… the presents.  In a lot of respects most of our celebrations, birthdays or otherwise, have become far too commercialized I think.  Don’t get me wrong, I like getting gifts, but again why just on a handful of days?  Okay, that sounds a little greedy, lol.  What I mean is, if you want to give someone a gift because you love them, haven’t seen them in a while, happy they are in your life, or because they are alive, then why do you need a designated day to do so?  I would much rather simply receive gifts just because someone cares, or thought I would like it.  Not because society dictates that it’s the right time of year to do so.

(See, I told I was weird.  😉 )

My partner has a beautiful saying, and in closing, I will leave you with that.

For Friendship

“Your presence is present enough.”

About Chyina

Well this is the part of websites/blogs that I don’t like, I have to admit. How is one suppose to describe oneself without coming across as egotistical or bragging? *sighs* I guess the best thing is to be truthful and simply short with what you have to say. Let the rest of the pages and entries speak for themselves. :) First, I like to think of myself as creative. I love art, music, writing, and a bunch of other things. Though we all are guilty of buying the massed produced, China imports, at the local ‘buy it all here’ stores. In the end I would much rather have a handcrafted item. There is simply something more unique about some that actually took thought and effort to get the end result.

  1. I personally like “un-birthdays”. 🙂 364 days of people telling me they love me and showering me with glorious un-birthday gifts like peace and quiet, no fighting, someone making dinner for me, the kids cleaning the kitchen…you get the hint. I’d be more than happy to give them all a day off for my birthday. It would be my gift to them for treating me like the queen I am the rest of the year. (j/k) LOL!!

P.S. – Happy Birthday!! May you have many more years of blissful un-birthdays. 🙂

  2. Well, Happy “The Earth has circled the sun 31 times since you were born” Day!

    I didn’t get you anything…
